Mill Pricing List:
Here at The Knotty Poplar Fiber Mill we offer a wide range of services to fit your fiber milling needs. Everything here is done in small scale batches, all by hand, to ensure the best end result possible. This does not impact the fiber milling process timeline, as we are efficient with our workflow. Please read this whole page before submitting an order.
We do take custom orders if you aren't seeing exactly what you want on this list. If you'd like to place a custom order, please email Rachel at akpoplarhomestead@icloud.com, or call/text Rachel at (907) 441-1556.

We offer pickup and drop off of wool direct to you from Eagle River to the Mat Su Valley for an additional charge. Inquire through our email for transportation quotes. What We Look For in A Fleece
FIBER LENGTH
My equipment best handles fiber with a 3-10 inch staple length. Shorter fibers are unlikely to produce a good quality yarn. I am unable to process fiber under 2" staple length.
CLEANLINESS
Vegetable matter is not removed by my equipment. The picker can remove some fine seeds and chaff, but large pieces will remain. Burrs must be picked out by hand or they will get caught in caught machinery-- if you don't do it, I will, and I will charge for it at the rate of $25 an hour, one hour minimum. Save yourself money and pick out burrs and dung tags and skirt your fleeces well before bringing them to the mill! (Processing is charged on incoming weight.)
I wash each fleece at the beginning of the process. Extremely dirty or greasy fleeces may require extra washes. I use a standard wool wash formulated especially for protein fibers, and follow it with a specialized rinse made from the same company. These are washed by hand in a high temperature soaking sink, in small increments to ensure a thorough clean and consistent end result.
