~~THE PROCESS~~
This wool is harvested from Alaskan farms throughout the state, and is bought by a local fiber artist who renders the wool. The wool gets washed multiple times, then picked for all debris and carded into the soft fluffy material I work with. A local fiber artist also hand dyes and braids up the roving, which I then buy.
My processing is this; I pre draft up my fiber and begin spinning it. To spin a 2 oz braid it takes roughly about three hours. Once my bobbin is filled with my single spun yarn, I then wind it off and begin to ply it (meaning I take two ends of it and twist it together to make a traditional 2ply yarn.) Once that has been done, it’s again wound off and then used to crochet up these earrings. The finished result is then wet blocked until dry and then put on my earring findings. These are lightweight due to the nature of the wool I use. Please see the slides attached for photos of the process!
I have a lot of fun making these unique designer earrings, and hope they bring you as much joy as they do for me. 😊
