Welcome to Great Fiber History, the introduction to fiber art history. 

The history of fiber work has been around since the beginning of civilizations. Drop spindles were used heavily for all textiles at one point in time, transitioning to wheel work, and eventually industrial fiber rendering like we see today. What is now seen as a recreational hobby, was a cornerstone skill of societies of the past. Embark with me on an adventure to learn about the amazing skills, techniques and tools used. During the wheel portion of the class, an 1800’s great walking wheel will be demoed along with a modern wheel, to illustrate the differences between the two.
